Here’s What’s New
Google Sheets used to offer 21 different filter-by-condition options, covering things like “Date is,” “Text ends with,” and more. But let’s be honest—not every filter works for every type of data. If you’re working with numbers, you probably don’t need options like “Text starts with,” right? Now, Sheets automatically filters those options for you. So, if your column type is set to numbers, you’ll only see number-based filter options—no unnecessary clutter.
Why This Change is So Helpful
Imagine you’re working on a sales spreadsheet with columns for dates, customer names, and total amounts. In the past, you’d get every filter type, whether it applied to numbers, text, or dates. Now, Google Sheets recognizes the data type in each column and only shows relevant filters. So for your “Total Amount” column, you’ll see options like “Greater than” or “Less than” but won’t be distracted by text-based filters.

Good news! This update has rolled out to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, so it’s available now for all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and even those with personal Google accounts.
